The little known hill near Kanakapura

Trekking and Weekend Getaways
This is a very small hillock which is categorized as an ideal point for trekking and rock climbing. It is just 70kilmetres from Bangalore and makes an ideal getaway from the city.
This is Achalu or Achchalu Betta, a hillock near a small hamlet in Kanakapura taluk of Ramanagar district. This hillock is just a little over fourteen kms from Kanakapura town and it is little known to outsiders though locals, nature lovers, trekkers and of course climbers are aware of it.
Generally the hillock is deserted as there is nothing much to see. A few temples are scattered en route to the hill and the scenery around is stunning.
The view from the top of the surrounding green with hillocks interspread with water bodies is a sight for sore eyes. The Betta presents a challenge for climbers and trekkers.
If you are climbing in summer, do so early in the morning. The mid mornings can get pretty hot. It is best to avoid the hill during the rainy season. The trek can get pretty tough at some places and it tales more than an hour and half to reach the summit.
The hill is rocky and the vegetation thorny. You can spot small animals and birds.
The nearest town where you get food and drinking water is Kanakapura. So when you head to the hill, carry your backpack with enough food and water.
Achalu is on the road after Kanakapura towards Sathnur and Halgur or on the way to Mekedatu. The hillock is just a little away from Achalu. There is a small lake near Nayakanahalli which is adjacent to Achalu.
The hillock is about 78 kilometres form Bangalore and less than 16 kms from Kanakapura.
